大家知道民谣吉他是由木板粘制而成的乐器，因此在平时保养时应注意以下几点：1.为保护乐器的清洁，需经常擦拭琴体，使乐器本身保持光滑，如必要时还可用木器去污剂来擦拭（此种制剂是专门用于木制乐器而制造的）。2.避阳光防潮湿，一般情况吉他乐器要避免阳光直射下长期放置。如火烤更是不可以的，总之要避免高温。另外潮湿也会影响吉他的音色，甚至严重时会使粘合开胶不能演奏，如下雨淋上雨水时要回家后立即用干布擦拭，以免因水浸入琴体中会使琴声发生变化。3.防止碰撞，如外出参加演出或旅行时最好购置一个琴箱为好，以免外出碰坏了吉他。另外有琴箱对保养乐器会有很大的好处。4.长期不使用吉他时，应将琴弦放松，以免长期受力造成琴把变形最终不能弹奏。假如你是弹奏古典吉他的初学者可以不松琴弦，因为古典吉他大多为尼龙弦，长期不松也不会使琴把弯曲。5.偶尔给弦钮齿加点润滑油，以维持它的旋转功能、还可防锈。
